40 days

Dear all

Today is the 40th day since grandma's passing. My mum said that these 40 days, grandma is around near us, looking at us. After that she has to continue on her journey.

I woke up feeling shocked just now due to a very sad dream which I had earlier. Was crying in my dream and I still feel the sadness. Could it be that grandma's telling me something. Is she pointing me in the right direction.

Gonna have a little prayer session in the evening for grandma. They say that death, brings people together. It certainly did for me. I'm indeed closer to my family and relatives now. So looking forward to meeting them later.

A day at the beach

Dear all

Went to Sembawang Park today with my 2 little brothers. Zul, my friend at work tag along for his fishing. The fishing rods are ready. Waiting for the fishes. We placed our belongings in my trusted tent......
and went swimming. OK. Zul looks better in this picture.
Before long, the fishing is left aside.
Lesson of the day: Zul showing my brothers how to catch worms to use as bait.
Close-up of his rod. Fishing rod I mean. Going home. Bye.

Scheaffer

Dear all

The year: 1912. The place: Fort Madison, Iowa. Walter A. Sheaffer takes his grand idea of a pen-filling apparatus that utilizes a lever system and, with his life savings, founds the W.A. Sheaffer company. The physical space of the company is a modest one - the backroom of Mr. Sheaffer's jewelry store - but the vision of the company is much more than modest. Nearly a century later, we continue to offer generation after generation innovative, reliable and stylish writing instruments. These pens are used worldwide by loyal and diverse friends who appreciate elegance and class. We look back to the nostalgic past, to simpler times when a look in the eye and a hand shake was the norm. We look to the abundant future, by redefining the fashion of written communication in our technological world. You have a signature. And Sheaffer gives you the power to show the world what it is.

Nothing better to do so I took out my camera and lens and took some shots of my pen. The dirts on the pictures was due to dust on my lens, long time since I cleaned them so please ignore.

All in a day's work

Dear all

Afternoon shift today. Busy, busy, busy. 3 log entries (money found in room, alarm activated at kitchen and a guest complain), 2 cases of guest check-out but left items in in-room safe, a case of a missing bag and a complain of a cityguest regarding the taxi services. Not to mention the daily broadband troubleshooting for the guests. I'm seriously suay lor, gotta bathe in flowers big time.

The last case, regarding the cityguest complain of the taxi services was very over in my opinion. This cityguest complain doorman never acknowledge and that they wait for some time. Liar, viewed CCTV and these are the sequence of events.

2151hrs- Cityguests arrive at driveway. Doorman engaged with other guest.

2153hrs- Doorman finally done with other guests. Saw the cityguests and acknowledge them but was scolded instead. They then look for the manager.

As I was engaged, Liah assisted them. The cityguests commented that they are not acknowledged and no attention given. Please lah, its 2 mins and not 20. Be reasonable. Hotel driveway is a private property. You should be thankful we even let you queue up for taxi there. What attention are you refering to anyway. Even the hotel guest queue for the taxi. You need a red carpet or something to welcome you to take the taxi there. Next time, paste your name at your forehead so that others can address by your name. I can't even be bothered to talk to them.

Irritating.

Birthday

Dear all

14 June 2007. Its mum's birthday, Happy birthday. Got her a new clutch bag for work. Glad that she liked it. On a sad note, its exactly grandma's 1 month since her passing. Feels like shes gone for a long time. The days passes by so slow.

Worked afternoon today, atmosphere at work is so gloomy. Where's our motivation? Went to JB after work for my usual supply of petrol. The motorcyle queue was so long, thank goodness its moving fast.

IPPTless

Dear all

11 June

On afternoon shift. Knocked off slightly earlier as I have IPPT the next morning at 0845hrs. Before going home though, dropped by Mustafa Centre as needed to buy a pair of shoes for my IPPT. So last minute as I forgot that I had no sports shoe. Wanted to buy a shoe which cost about $40 but the brand, model and outlook was disappointing. Wanna get the tried and proven brands like Nike, Reebok, Adidas etc, but the price was way over my budget. Resigned myself to geting a pair from an unknown brand when I spotted a nice Adidas shoe. Its on offer, $67. IPPT, here I come.

Reached home and wanted to sleep immediately but there's MotoGP on TV. Yahoo!!! Too bad Valentino Rossi did not win but came in second instead.

12 June

Woke up at 7am after like 4 hours of sleep. Was caught in the rain on the way to Jurong Division but still arrive there at 0815hrs. Was looking for the reporting officer when I was informed that I had gone to the wrong place. Can't be I said, its stated clearly on the reporting letter. Anyway, the other place is at Home Team Academy, 10 mins away if I ride slightly faster. So in the rain, without my raincoat, I ride (or shall I say speed) to HTA feeling like I'm V.Rossi. Reached there on time at 0845hrs.

Guess what, today is the first day of enlistment for Police National Service. So theres a tour for the families and friends, some on guided tours, some just loitering everywhere. And there are many of them. How to take the IPPT. And the other thing was that, there's no instructor to conduct our IPPT. Called up the reservist office and was told that since its raining, they assume we would not turn up. We were like, why wouldn't we turn up when you send to us SMSes informing us that we will be charged if we are not present. The reservist office told us to wait and they will send someone over to take attendance. What a long wait. They turned up at around 1030hrs. Was informed to wait for another reporting notice for the IPPT. Bloody waste of time, waste of my money buying the new shoe. On my way out of HTA, dropped by the souvenir shop. Came out of there buying a new police shirt and umbro shorts, to be use on my next IPPT.

Since its near the cemetery, visited Grandma's grave. Her grave is being made up by the caretakers there. Hope it will be done soon.

Dearie came to my house in the afternoon. Poor dearie, she just had a fall at her house and sprained her left ankle. I won't elaborate on her fall here, go ask her yourself. We slacked a while before playing badminton in the early evening. Pity dearie again, she had another fall while playing and bruised her right elbow. Medic Helmi to the rescue. Patched her elbow with some ointment and plasters. My new police shirt which dearie wore was stained with blood from her elbow. And its only 6 hours old, hehe. My little brothers and cousins came back shortly and we continue to play. Went up at around 6pm. Entertained my little brothers in the living room before I dozed off on the armchair, hehe. It's too comfortable mah.

Still on OFF tomorrow.

Me without my wallet

Dear all

Did a little revamping on my blog. For those with a keen eye and a sucker for details, they would have noticed that my friends list is now in alphabetical order instead of in sequence previously. However, dearie is now near the bottom instead of on top previously. And also, a warm welcome to my buddy, Sadiq to the blogger community. Got blog never tell eh.

Was on afternoon shift . Today, I forgot to bring my wallet out so did not spend any money at all. Just had some coins on my bag. I think I should just leave my wallet at home so that I can save money. Thankgoodness my bike's petrol was full. Imagine if I pump petrol and then realised I have no money later, hehe. Work today was fine, slightly busy in the middle of the shift but manageable. Tomorrow, will be worse. Heavy arrivals and heavy departures. Sometimes I wonder, why I'm in this line. The duck at work.
Guilty. She had left but her used cup is still around. My Krumpler.

Frankie did a post on his blog of the difference between house and home. When Grandma was around, I call it my home sweet home eventhough I'm seldom home. Now I call it my house. Hope I can call it home again.

I dreamt of my Grandma last night. I still miss her.

The last of the morning shift

Dear all

Finally on my last morning shift. Work was busy, won't comment much. Had dinner with Sadiq, Chandran, Faizal, Norain and Suew after work at Thai Express. Emily joined us a while later. Had such a good laugh with Faizal and Sadiq entertaining us with their antics. Its been a while since we all had a good laugh.

Went back shortly to rest before going to pick up dearie at 10pm from Downtown East chalet. Guess what, I fall asleep on my bed and woke up at 11pm instead. 13 missed calls and 2 messages on my handphone from dearie. I'm screwed big time. In record time, I arrived at 11.45pm. Had to ride fast to meet her, 120 km/h on SLE and TPE. Luckily, traffic was smooth . Hope I'm not caught by any Traffic Police speed trap. Proceeded to JB to pump petrol for my bike before going back to Bencoolen for Supper. Coincidentally, met an old friend Hafiz there. We were porters together back then but he has now moved on to another property. Exchanged news and think back of the old times at work together. Left shortly for home.

Just now, informed dearie of my plans of our intended upcoming holiday. Thought of touring Malaysia on my bike, visiting different cities in a span of a week. Cheaper alternative as transportation costs is taken care of. However, the downside is my bike has to be in tip-top condition which sadly now is far from so. The logistics needed far outweights the advantages. And touring on a bike is a bit rugged which I doubt dearie would want as she's very 'gu niang', hehe. Of course, my ideal holiday plan would be to backpack in different countries say like Malaysia, Thailand and Cambodia. However, this met with fierce rejection from dearie.

Anyway, I guess all my plans won't be a reality. Just can hope only. Sigh.

Badminton Tournament

Dear all

Was OFF on Tuesday so me and Dearie took time to visit my Grandma's cemetery. Laid some flowers for her. It all seems like just yesterday when she say her goodbye to this world. It all feels like a dream. After that, we headed to Causeway point for lunch. We each had spaghetti. Window shopped a while before I decided to buy another pair of badminton racquets. Already bought 2 previously for my little brothers. Went home with the thought of me, my little brothers and dearie playing badminton together.

Heres the fun part, imagine my shock with what I saw under the block. My brothers and neighbours were all playing badminton together. Its like a tournament was being held there. Most of the 2nd floor household was present with the small kids to the mothers to the maids. Before long, 3rd floor make their entrance as well. Dearie was an instant attraction as she got along well with the kids. Now I'm hooked on badminton.

Yesterday was my first morning shift as a DM during a full house. Beginning of the shift, was calling other hotels to find rooms as afraid the hotel might be overbooked and have to turn away guests. Nearer to the end of the shift, was calling other hotels if they needed rooms as theres a lot of cancellations and we might not run full. So funny. Mum ask me to go back early as Granddad has a dinner appointment with his friends and I need to take care of my brothers. Reached home at 6pm to find only granddad there. My maid and little brothers were out with my auntie. As soon as I lay on my bed, Im out. Only woke up near to midnight. Hehe.

Worked the morning shift again today. Total of 4 log entries, 2 carpet stains, 1 case of guest scalded by hot water and another case of service shortfall. Hope my jinx is not coming back. After worked, rushed home immediately. Why, badminton of course, hehe. Now, I'm really hooked on badminton. However, the passion for badminton has a sacrifice. My palm has a blister due to incorrect handling of the racquet and my 2003 Christmas gift (Adidas sandal) was torn. Gotta wear shoes next time.

Goodbye

Dear all

Today is the last working day for Sandra, my so-called full-time trainee. She has completed her attachment and will graduate soon. Take care and all the best.

Me and Sandra aka Babe (name given by Marc). She's getting married this November by the way.

Work today was good. Nothing can't be achieved. Very systematic thanks to Frankie. Heavy arrivals, bring it on we say. A perfect shift. After work, we had supper. This time round, its at Bencoolen. Met up with Sadiq again. Pity him as his colleagues at his new workplace are not the social type (as most of them are married) so he's with us then. Was talking and having our meals when one of us suddenly started telling ghost stories which spook us. Haha, so funny we must have looked. The winner of the ghost story telling goes to Frankie. His ghost story is a classic.

Its OFF day tomorrow. Many errands to do.

5 years long service

Dear all

Current date 3 June 2007. 5 years before on 3 June 2002, I started my work at my workplace. Norain was there with me on my first day of work. She was on her internship program. However, she graduated and left but then returned again. From a bellboy to Front Office, Its been 5 long years now. Im going to get my free night stay soon. Damn pathetic eh, worked 5 years and only get 1 night free stay. Thats the company I worked for if you all want to know. Better than nothing I say.

Yesterday after work, met dearie and proceeded to JB to pump petrol. Traffic was smooth at the checkpoint, no jam. After that, we had supper at Newton. Dearie is gorgeous and cute as usual, hehe. She makes me so happy.

On afternoon shift again today. Work was good, no complaints, all in order. Managed to charge a guest for a carpet stain. Phew, glad that the guest accepted the arrangements and that its all over. However, I pitied the guest though as he's nice. After work, me, Daniel and Cindy met up with Sadiq at Newton for supper. Its my 3rd visit to Newton in 8 days. Chilli crab, how I love you.

Let it all be a dream

Dear all

Was on afternon shift today. Caught in the rain while on way to work though. My new raincoat however held up well. Work was fine, did a few follow-ups. Not much arrival or departures. However, encountered a case last minute. Just my luck. Well, it happens.

Thought of going to JB to pump petrol but just lazy to go, so to home then. However, I dread coming home. I'm used to seeing my grandma whenever I'm home. I still felt her presence but I really miss her. Now, grandpa's sick. Probably he missed grandma. After all, they are married for 49 years. We all miss her.

My home is not what it used to be. It's so different now. Why can't all the things I experienced lately be a dream.

Helmi.
